Export and keep a Film

Make a finished movie when your edit is ready.

Export a fresh movie

  1. Open your draft in Library → Films.
  2. Tap Export.
  3. Keep 16MM open while the Film is prepared.
  4. When Film ready appears, choose Download or Share.

The export tray shows the Film’s name and duration. Preparing your film, a percentage and sampled frames show its progress. When it finishes, Film ready appears beneath the preview. Each Export prepares a fresh movie from the current edit. Export does not automatically save to Photos or create a new Take. The editable draft stays in Films.

If a Film-wide Look change is unfinished, Export stays hidden. Use View Progress to finish or discard that change first. See applying a Look to the whole Film.

Keep or share the finished copy

Download adds a movie to Photos. Wait for Finished downloading to confirm success. Tap Download again to add another copy. Share opens the iOS share sheet so you can choose a person, app or file destination.

The prepared movie is temporary. Save or share a copy you want to keep before closing the export screen. You can reopen the draft and export again later. Copies saved to Photos follow your iCloud Photos settings.

If exporting or saving stops

Cancel Export stops the movie export and keeps your edit. Leaving 16MM or a hot phone can also stop an export. Return to the app, let the phone cool if needed, then choose Export again.

If saving to Photos fails, try again or choose Share. A failed save does not delete the Film draft. Review Photos access in Settings → Library → Camera Roll access.

If a fresh export fails and a matching earlier export is available, the screen may offer Previous export. This is the earlier movie for that same edit. You can save or share it, then try a new export later.

Delete a Film

In Films, open a draft’s menu and choose Delete Film. Confirm to remove the edit and its owned local media and retained exports, or choose Cancel to keep it. Original Takes, album membership and movies already saved to Photos stay available.

Deleting an original Take leaves an existing Film intact because the Film has its own copies. Removing a clip changes only that Film.

Keep a copy outside the app

Film drafts, their media copies and added music stay on this device. Films are not included in iCloud Sync. Deleting the app can remove these files, and local app storage is not a backup.

Save a finished movie to Photos or another destination before removing the app or changing phones. A finished movie keeps the result, rather than the editable Film draft.
