Make the camera feel familiar.
Video picture and recording
In Video, between Takes, open Settings → Capture → Frame size and choose 1920 × 1080 (Full HD), 2560 × 1440 (2.5K) or 3840 × 2160 (4K). Full HD uses less storage and usually develops sooner. Larger sizes make bigger files and can take longer.
Frame size, Stabilization, Film Flash, Record sound and Review after recording are Video settings, hidden in Photo. Switching modes keeps these saved choices. Photo size depends on the selected camera. 2.5K uses a native 4K source, so it shares 4K’s FPS limits on your chosen Lens. Available speeds depend on the Lens, frame size and phone. Digital zoom and stabilization can reduce picture detail.
Record sound and Review after recording start off. Turn on Review after recording to open that video after you stop it and it finishes developing, while you’re still on the camera. Starting another capture or leaving the camera cancels that automatic review. Sound needs a whole Take at 24 FPS with no manual Flash. See sound and Film Flash and Long-press defaults for their settings.
Choose image stabilization
Settings → Capture → Stabilization offers Off, Standard and Cinematic. Cinematic starts selected. Change it between Takes, after the recording has finished.
Support depends on your Lens, FPS and phone. If your choice is unavailable, the camera uses a supported fallback. Stabilization affects the recorded picture and stays out of shared Look links.
Set camera shortcuts
Open Settings → Gestures & Shortcuts for picture swipes, reset targets, supported Camera Control adjustments and Open camera guidance. See Gestures and shortcuts for setup and supported controls.
Make it familiar
In Settings → Appearance, Record button color offers Light, Gold, Green, Ink Blue and Plum. Light is the default.
In Tool Icons, choose Video or Photo to edit that mode’s appearance. This leaves the camera mode as it is. Each mode has its own Default or Custom choice. With Custom, tap a tool in the preview, then choose its appearance below. Photo Shutter offers Numbers or a timer Icon; Video keeps its FPS choices. Aperture, ND, Focus and Lens artwork choices are shared by both modes. Focus offers matching Auto and Manual icons. Switching styles keeps your Custom choices.
Texture is the default App icon. If your device supports alternate icons, you can also choose Dark, Light, Gold, Green, Blue, Plum or Titanium.
Keep Looks in sync
Open Settings → iCloud Sync and turn on iCloud Sync to keep saved Looks, their Studio grades, Look Favorites and selected preferences up to date on devices using the same iCloud account. Synced preferences include Viewfinder guides, Record button color, Tool Icons and gestures.
Check the status and Last synced, or choose Sync now to send changes and check for updates. Turning sync off stops updates; existing copies stay on this device and in iCloud. Deleting a synced Look also deletes it on your other synced devices. Conflicting edits are kept as separate Looks.
Photos, videos, albums and Film drafts stay on this device. They are not part of Look sync. Copies saved to Photos follow your iCloud Photos settings.
Privacy and access
You don’t need an account. Your phone processes your photos, footage and Films; they are not uploaded to the company for processing. Film drafts, owned media copies and added music stay on this device and are not included in iCloud Sync. Copies you save to Photos follow your iCloud Photos settings. Allow camera access to shoot and microphone access if you want sound. Motion supports Level. The app does not ask for your location.
Open Settings → Library → Camera Roll access for iOS Settings. Remember, failed saves keep your picture.
Find help in the app
In Settings, open The 16MM guide for this guide in your browser. Use Show tips again to revisit hints. Choose Show onboarding again to replay the interactive introduction. Its examples leave your camera settings, saved Looks and Library items as they are. You can also find Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and the app version.
Send feedback
Open Settings → Send feedback and write your message. You can add up to three selected screenshots or videos, with a total limit of 15 MB.
Include app details starts on. Use View details to see what’s included, or turn the switch off to leave the details out.
Tap Continue to email to review your draft and choose whether to send it. If Mail is not set up, use Share report or Copy support address. Nothing is sent automatically.
Share a Take or Film
Share a developed video or photo from Takes. For an assembled Film, open its editor and choose Export, then Download or Share. Check the item’s saving information before making another copy.
